Okay, so I'm getting my first ever box of halves from the bank today. They ordered them just for me. Can someone please provide a list, or a link to a list of what exactly to be looking for?

I've managed to piece together various things to look out for, from other posts, but I haven't seen a comprehensive list in any of them, and I just want to be sure that I don't miss anything.

Thanks in advance.

I collect any silver (1970 and earlier dates) as well as anything 2002 and later. Also, 1974 has a double die you could look for. Also, any S mint coins you find would probably be worth keeping too unless in bad condition.

If you manage to get full rolls of 2008 halves, hold on to 'em. 2008 is the lowest mintage of the series so far, and will almost certainly be a key date. Let them sit in the safe for 5 years and see what they are worth.

Must ask what are you looking for just silver or to put together a complete collection?

You should be able to find all of those from CRH eventually. There are only 2 that I have never come across and they are 1970D and one from 1987 (P or D I don't recall).

Nice start you should be able to fill a lot of those holes. Personally I'm having a hard time finding 2000 - 2008 just about ready to give up and buy them. So I suggest you keep all 2000 coins (maybe you could sell them to me).

I bought 2000 uncs (year, not quantity) on ebay for $1 each with free shipping. Not bad, I thought.

Oh, and Rainman, if I happen to find any 2000's, they've got your name on them, but I guess you shouldn't hold your breath.

I don't see what height has to do with coin collecting ,now that I'm done with the joking around, let me suggest variety hunting, first learn what a normal coin looks like then when you find one that doesn't quite fit the normal look you might have a variety.

Okay, so the box is done. I'm guessing it was a good box. Here's what I found:

1950D - 1
1965 - 1
1967 - 3
1968D - 1

I also got 18 of the coins off of my need list including 2006D and 2008 P & D.

Rainman, I've got the following:

2000 x 12
2000D x 2
2001P x 1
2001D x 3
2008D x 1

They are yours if you want them. You can have them for face plus shipping. PM me if interested.

I also have about $55 in bicentennials. Are they even worth keeping? Is there any value above face for them?

Oh, and the most interesting thing I found was a two-headed bicentennial half. I was examining it quite thoroughly, and I can't see how it was done. It's pretty neat. If I can get the camera working, I'll load up pics of the finds, but don't count on it.

Is there a seam around the inside of the rim? Not on the edge, but on one of the faces of the coin.

If there is, whomever did it was a master. I can't see it anywhere. Time to take it to the coin store and see what the pro has to say. Trip report when I come back.

If you drop the two headed half on a counter it will have a hollow sound (usually). Compare that sound with a regular one that you are taking back to the bank. They should have a different sound.
