I have a 1972 s Eisenhower dollar, what is wrong with the reeds they extend out past the edge. I haven't seen any of these is it just an off strike or is this normal. I've only seen weird things like this on Roosevelt dimes. Weird thing is that it looks like I could snap them off. It's still in the packaging I'll take better pictures once I get it out of there I just need a better holder. Thanks any feedback would be appreciated

I thought so to but there doesn't seem to be smooth edges on the side and the reeds seem to be above the rim.

Is it a proof strike? If so they were struck more than once. As for collar clash, I'm wondering if the packaging (some pics) is showing dimples from the cause and effect and playing tricks on the eyes.

I'm thinking the reeds make up the edge and should extend out from there. Also if I'm thinking right 40% silver. Thanks, Doug.

It's a regular strike blue pack, does that make a difference.

Definitely a lot of reflection from the packaging as well but the rim reeds don't stop flat part of it is raised like teeth. It looks like you would feel that or be able to grind It down to make it flush with the surface. More noticeable on the reverse Hard to explain but I'll take it out of the wrapper and put it in a holder.

Another pic as I said they are above the rim it's not flattened like it should be kind of like it hit the coin hard and the reeds didn't stop where they should have. They look like pointy teeth and a few spots look like there is extra metal on the rim.

Actually this looks the same found something similar or a variation but it does look like it has a fence around the perimeter of the coin.

Yeah, I knew I had seen that phenomenon somewhere on ErrorRef.com:
