Post-strike damage. The coin didn't leave the striking chamber in that condition.

Looks like it's met a hammer sometime in its life.

Grinder or file was used on rims, then hammer to finish it off. Poor Washington.

From the Numismatic Glossary - link on left side of the page. Mule Error This is a rare Mint error where the obverse die is of one coin and the reverse die is of another coin. The most famous of the Mule errors is a Sacagawea dollar/Washington quarter Mule, where a Washington quarter obverse is paired with a Sacagawea reverse.

More like a sow's ear, John. So many newbie's throw out terms such as "mule" or " Cud" without knowing what they mean.

I'm not real sure what your trying to say but this is not a mule coin in anyway, shape, or form a mule coin. I'm not even sure what the year is from all the damage. Spendable

jasper, Hondo was posting the explanation of a mule from the numismatic glossary. Hondo, when they are bombarded with get rich quick sites that call anything from a die chip to a chisel mark as a Cud, I probably would do the same if I was just starting out.
