I was going through my old Pennie's and comparing when I found, what looks to me like a mint mark error coin. Here is a photo of one seemingly normal 1950 S coin next to the one with the error mint mark with the S a lot closer to the date than the other.

What do ya'll think?

To CCF! Mint marks used to be punched in by hand on the dies, so the position varied.

Agreed. Mint marks were hand punched into each working die back then, so placement does vary. Yours is within mint tolerance.

Yes, hand-punched mint marks can vary in location--and they do...

@coin, first welcome to CCF. Second, can you please add a close-up pic of the mintmark that seems "too" close to the date? Thx. We generally say that there is no premium, unless it is actually touching one of the other design elements, such as the date.

to the CCF Back then as long as it was to the right of the portrait, and below the date it was good to go. Put it in a 2X2. it only cost 3 cents.
