I picked this up thinking it may be a new MAD clash but I hadn't look through the "Possible MAD Clash" section on maddieclashes where this is referenced http://www.maddieclashes.com/possib...die-clashes/ I got it for $1.50 shipped so I think it was a good snag.

Yikes that would be quite a clash indeed. I'm assuming you've confirmed that this isn't plating bubbles because that would always be my first thought.

Very cool, especially for the price! It's spot on with the 99 example in your link.

what's up with the offset overlay? are you saying that the rim caused this clash. I think it was caused by the front of Lincoln's Bust. (Or am I wrong here?)

Thanks for the comments!

Dearborn, take a look at the link I posted. It explains the radically MAD clashes. This is not a normally aligned clashed dies event and yes it is suspected that the rim gutter made the mark. There are similar examples listed to compare on the site.

Nice example. Love your images.

I do have a question to throw out for consideration that is causing my mind to distort.

If the die was struck by an incuse rim gutter why do all these possible MAD die clashes look raised?

Shouldn't the area on the coin be incuse?

Or is it my visual perception that needs adjusting again?

Thanks P55, that is a good question. When I first started photographing the coin and clash it was apparent to me that it was slightly incuse. In an effort to make the area look like the listing photo and adjusted the light to give it that raised look. I believe all of these MAD clashes are incuse.
