So here's the coin I posted a while back in hand. Doubled die reverse very clear to see. Thoughts?

Appears to be N-8 (Rarity 2), die state C or D. Nice looking coin!

N8 Here is the page from Bob Grellman's latest book:
1849-Braided-Hair-Cent---In-Hand

As to grade? I'd say high XF45, It seems to line up with the Photograde AU58 but I can't see it that high at all, so I'm at 40 to 45 it's a nice variety and close to low end of the condition census list.

EDIT: Thanks for catching that I know exactly what happened, as I did the first attempt at the screen capture I slipped and clipped the right side of the image too narrow. Clicked on the PDF page to make the screenshot window go away and that turned the page, which I did not realize, then I just re-screenshot the page and saved it then uploaded it. DOH! Fixed now.

I think you accidentally posted the N9 page - wish I had that - much more rare. I respect your opinion, westcoin, but here's why I disagree. I look at two main obverse features when I'm thinking about grade: On obverse - Lower curl separation from shoulder and whether the top of the ear is defined. Just posted this 1847 recently that grades AU55 by PCGS. Note the ear and the curl, curl shows good separation from shoulder, right edge of ear a little soft and makes AU55. Reverse is tougher to evaluate. Note leaf detail on the 47 at 3 o'clock, a bit soft. Note leaf detail in the same area on the '49 - much better definition. I feel this is solid AU58. Welcome to any dissenting thoughts.

everything you stated in your comment regarding grading these are all related to strike. although strike should be considered, imo, should not be that heavily weighted.

1. Lower curl separation from shoulder
2. whether the top of the ear is defined.
3. the ear and the curl, curl shows good separation from shoulder,
4. right edge of ear a little soft
5. leaf detail on the 47 at 3 o'clock, a bit soft.
6. leaf detail in the same area on the '49

imo, the reason the 47 pulled a 55 was due to the wear on the high points of the devices. nose, jaw, neck, bottom of bust, hair around the ear, lower curl, all the leaves and bow

So if the '47 was a legit AU55, why is the '49 not at least an AU58?

different grader. but the blotchy color and more ticks and marks than the 47 along with a weaker reverse strike may have held it back. keep in mind that TPG's dont always get it right. we have seen this over and over again

i would call the 49 a 55+

Thinking I may send this one to a TPG to see what they say. Worth it?

AU-58 on the '49, but it looks like it may have been cleaned.
