Seems to just be some staining - an acetone soak would rule that out. If the clad layer was missing, the copper core would be showing. Could you show a pic of the edge?
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

It looks more like surface staining from environmental exposure. I don't think it's a clad error.

Staining from Environmental Damage. Might have been in a cup holder and got liquid spilled on it. PMD.

I'm in with staining of a cupholder nature. Would be fun to know an accurate weight--out to two decimal places.

Spilling soda on this coin, probably in a cup holder will make this kind of stain.

appears so far to be from environmental toning of some kind instead, perhaps a stain as mentioned. When a clad layer is missing, the coloring will be much more like copper so you can better see the difference in coloring which may help you (and others) in the future when looking https://www.PCGS.com/news/missing-c...-error-coinsMissing clad layers are actually found a bit more often on 2000 quarters including also Maryland and 2000 massachusetts. One of the reasons I bought a few mint sewn bags of those to look through when time finally permits. The weight from Massachusetts was 4.51g in mint state missing the obverse clad layer as a starting reference point. Here is another, a 2003 image to give you a better look at the color.
