Hi I found this $2 coin noodling and noticed it looked like it has scratches all around collar but I don't think it's PMD looks like it could have maybe happened in collar? Idk I thought was interesting and was just wondering is this a thing? Thanks

@coin, I look forward to seeing what our ANZ members have to say, but are you sure that the interrupted reeding isn't done on all of these coins? Elsewhere around the world similar edge designs are used, perhaps for anti-counterfeiting or to aid the visually impaired in quickly identifying what coin they have.

@ Spence, yes, it is on our $2 coin, which has 4 longer smooth segments between 4 reeded segments. I think that the OP is referring to the partial wear on the coin's edge.

@ Coin_poacher, are the reeded segments scratched or is only the smooth segments that have been affected?

Sorry for late reply, and thanks for feedback. And no the reeded sections do not show any of these scratches and is only on one half, all the way around the coin on the smooth edges only, it's not visible at all around the rim either. Any ideas?

Here's more images. You can also see how light reflects differently on the scratched half but this effect ends there and does not reach any of the coins faces
