Found this penny going through a large group of pennies my friend brought over it's just under the size of a nickel. Anybody have any ideas?

It's a Texas Cent. Someone placed it between two pieces of leather(?) and pounded it. This stretched the diameter slightly and caused the loss of the copper layer. The zinc is now reacting to moisture in the environment by turning dark and beginning to corrode.

We see these posted from time to time.

Yes a fun find even though it is just worth face value. Keep this Texas Cent as an oddity if you want.

A planchet is the coin term. A planchette is used in occult.
