1960NYGiants Pillar of the Community United States 666 Posts	Posted 07/30/2023 10:49 pm There was a display of these countermarked pieces at the RCNA in Halifax. Very interesting read. The train carrying the shipment of new 1896 cents failed to make the curve and derailed at Palmer's Pond. The boxes of cents (80 cases, 6+ tons) crashed out of the car and spilled around the tracks and pond. Locals picked some up and brought them to jewelers who engraved them like that shown in the OP.
