Republican Rome. Cn Domitius Ahenobarbus, silver denarius of 116-115
I think the attribution is correct and I didn't see anything that jumped out as being off... But confirmation would be appreciated ...
My only hesitation is there are a number of other similar republic coins with similar patina; fakes are good here; and it's a bit of the wild west. Once the coin is bought - at a fairly good priced (€65) it's sold. No returns really. Thank you!
Well, if it's a fake, it's a good one. Doesn't match any of the fake Cn. Domitius Ahenobarbus denarii listed in Forum's Fake Coin Reports or forgerynetwork.com, as far as I could see. Of course, while that is promising, it's not definitive either.
The coloring/tone does look - possibly - worked. But the style looks good and the devices look reasonably sharp. How does the edge look at 11:00 and 5:00 in relation to the obverse pic? Any evidence of a filed sprue?
