I have a 1901 s five dollar gold coin, that is in really good condition. I wanted to send it off and have it graded and slabbed for safety of the coin. I'm just not sure how to do it and can I trust that when I sent it off that I will be getting my coin back.
I know I'm probably a little over worried, but someone could do it. Anyone have any suggestions or comments?

Hello! I think it's all depends of post service and additional options you will choose to send this coin to grading company and they will take care of rest..

I mean than I was sending coins from or to Russia I was never sure until it gets there because they have some rules about historical and cultural treasures... Here I don't think it would be any problem inside the states.

Are you worried about the shipping, or PCGS itself? Registered Mail will meet your shipping safety needs, as long as you don't print HEY! VALUABLE COIN INSIDE! on the box.

I have sent many valuable coins to PCGS. Make sure to send USPS Registered and Insured as PCGS wants this. Make sure your box or envelope has a "brown tape" sealing all edges or openings that are not exposed whatsoever. The post office has this "tape" free of charge if you ask. Upon inspecting, the USPS will deem secure and will send your coin(s) on their way. Hope this helps.

Quote: Make sure your box or envelope has a "brown tape" sealing all edges or openings that are not exposed whatsoever. Be aware, this is a requirement for Registered Mail - they won't accept a package using any kind of plastic/cellophane tape on the outside. It has to be the brown paper tape, or nothing. They use the Registered stamp on all taped edges when processing it - the paper tape retains the stamp without fear of alteration, whereas it could be wiped off of plastic tape.

and from what I understand when you send a package registered you leave a paper trail also. Everyone who handles it has to sign it

And if it goes missing, the last person to sign for it is held responsible for it. So no one wants to be the last person to sign, and they make sure it gets passed on and signed for. At night and when they are not actively being handled they are kept under lock and key. Registered mail, for all practical purposes, never goes missing.

I agree, and you don't have to worry about PCGS keeping or swapping your coin either because they handle many millions of dollars worth of coins and are not going to ruin their reputation over one coin

Thanks everyone! That really helps. It's just one of those things that worries me just since I haven't ever sent one before.
Thanks!
