Thanks for sharing. My stepdad served in both Korea (Marines) and Vietnam (Air Force), got a Purple Heart in Korea, didn't want to talk about it much. After he passed in 1995 I got his military records, later found a national database of Purple Heart recipients, had his name added, George Beachler. https://www.thepurpleheart.com/roll-of-honor/

My dad in Korea. This was getting awarded his first Purple Heart. He always stressed that you don't really get more than one. It's "the order of the Purple Heart". They may give you second one. His service records indicate "Purple Heart with gold star". It may be a Marine/Navy thing. His had the gold star on the ribbon. Obviously wounded twice in combat, both times out on night patrol. They sent him back up on the line after the second time. The company chaplain saw him and thought that was the second time he got hit so he asked my dad. Dad says "well yeah". Chaplain said after the second time, you get to go home. Next day Dad was gone! Got back January '53. Participated in a nuke test April that year. Got out in August '53 (in Marine reserves to I think '59), married my mom January '54. Dad passed in 1982 at age 56, Mom passed in 2014, age 94! Buried holding my dad's dress blues. She loved a man in uniform.

My uncle was a Marine on Iwo Jima and received a purple heart for his wounds from there. His Buddy, Max, helped save him. Max received the Navy Cross for his actions on that day where he took out a pill box.

Quote: If you want you could add your dad to the Purple Heart site I mention above. Thanks. I went to that site and searched and didn't see him there. I do have his service records with the dd214, so that's not a problem. Luckily the Marines records are with the Navy, so not lost in the fire I read about that wiped out so many records. I got the records a few years back. I had to fill out an affidavit that I was related to who I was requesting the records for, which had to be notarized. The lady at the bank said she could notarize the form, just bring it in. So I did that and she looked at the form and started asking questions and I explained it to her. She said well she's "not going to charge me for notarizing this!". Really choked me up.

I am Very Touched by the Sentiment Seen Here.
I am compelled to say, My Father served the United States Military In Korea, 1951-1953 Enlisted in the USMC On His 21 st Birthdate. Infantry. ( Never mentioned a Word ) Re-Enlisted in the US Navy in 1965 The Seabee's. While Operating With Explosives, He was Hurt. Lost His Hearing in His Right Ear, The Circumstances , In My Dad's eyes were, Not Enough, In His words.
He was Up for The 1782 Established Purple Heart, How did I find Out, You may Ask, While We Had a Picinic Years ago, I invited OUR Family , My Father's Younger Brother came Too. They were similar in Many Ways, For He Too Enlisted in the USMC on His 21 st Birthdate, He pulled up to Our house in a New Ford truck, He had a Purple Heart Recipient License plate.
I later approached his and Ask about the Purple Heart, He said, Go ask Your Father, He was Up For ONE...... I Never had a Clue......
I approached my Father about it, He said, He Refused it, Stating, There are Many More Deserving... My Dad is My Hero Too.... May You All Honor All Who, Are More Deserving, Too......

Quote: Glad to see this thread @dear. Is that Purple Heart yours? Yes, that medal in mine, but I didn't get awarded it, it was given to me from a friend. When he heard about how I got so badly injured while serving over in Europe but was not "close to the action" as they say, he gave me his.
