Distilled water and Diamond dust pins. Constantius II, Antioch Mint. Turned out pretty well I think!

A good comparison of before and after. I wonder how recently this coin had acquired the desert patina.

That looks really nice! How long did it take?

Yokozuna, it took about a week with one cleaning session per day and it would rest in the distilled water between cleanings.

Spence I'm not sure but I personally hate "desert patina." It's not a patina to me, it's just dirt and sand, and must be purged! Lol

Yes we are largely in agreement. I'm not sure of the specific composition, but do feel that largely it is of modern application and occasionally used to actively hide defects. @kam had a nice thread about it a few years back.

Sodium Thiosulfate treatment. Very mild solution this time with 20 second soaks and rinses in tap water.

Impressive results Hornfest, especially on the AE's. Have you applied anything to the finished coins (wax, oil, VerdiCare etc), or is that the raw surface after cleaning?
