This is one of the few non-error coins in my collection. The Type I buffalo is one of my favorite coins because of the roughly chiseled look to the design.

I was looking for a Type I when the golden/orange color caught my eye and demanded that I buy it! The coin has lots of luster under the patina, too.

The strike is on the soft side, but I've read that it's fairly common for this coin.

How would you grade this one?

Looks like a dual sided layers missing error to me.

I'll say MS-66, a beauty.

nice looking coin. to me it looks like that obv die has been used to its last breath.

the photos are a little bit of a challenge. so I can only assess what I see. a couple minor marks on the top of the braid. discoloration on the jaw line and from K3-K6 along the rim as well as the top of the nose. the rims are really clean from marks. difficult to determine luster under all that toning. reverse - decent strike. looks like a split tail and full sharp horn. minor chatter on shoulder and some field discoloration around the coin.

all the discoloration could be from lighting and possibly from the toning. overall pleasing coin but the obv strike brings down the eye appeal a tad. I have it a really nice 65 maybe a +. not sure I can get it to a 66

Nice example! Given the posted pics, I'd be good with MS64+.
