Her condition is appropriate — in a literary sense, anyway. At the time, many of Liberty's subjects were working in hazardous factories with no safety controls, and no recourse in case of injury or death.

How would you describe her current state?

VG8 based more on reverse. 10 maybe. Looked at a 15 and it was a good bit more detailed. Starting to show some of LIBERTY on the shield. If she was working in a textile factory, you may want to see if she has all her fingers.

It's a really difficult date. I feel lucky to have her, despite her distress.

I'd go VG details. Might even straight grade, the TPG's are notoriously lenient on Liberty Seated dollars. It's still a very nice coin no matter what and certainly a tougher date in a series full of tough dates.

Its been dipped some time ago I'd say.
I reckon it would still grade straight.

I'm amazed how generous you guys were with this one. A Trade dollar (a huge proportion of which are cleaned, apparently) might get a pass for that kind of harsh surface adulteration, but not a seated liberty -- at least I wouldn't think so.

One of the very few "detailed" slabbed coins I've ever purchased. Could not have afforded a non-detailed example. Paid $1440 in Feb 2022.
