I should have waited a bit longer, and paid a bit more, to find a nicer example. Still, it's the first one I've ever owned.

Grade/variety opinions?

it has to feel good having one of these in your collection. this is just a guess as most folks never get a chance to grade one of these. strike is such a component of these. I'm not sure how PCGS looks at that. I think when they see minimal corrosion on these they might tend to net grade them rather than detail them

I'm going with a netted F15 coin

congrats

Decent example, but I understand your concern.

If you do not like it now you will never like it. Return immediately if you have buyer's remorse!

Way too late for a return. I do plan to include this in the first batch of coins I sell on Great Collections.

Any Fugio is a nice Fugio to have, and a part of American history.

This is the X reverse (die break from center towards rim at K6-K7, A is far from RE in ARE) and looks like obverse 12 (upper serifs in U of YOUR are lower than the adjacent O and R, first cinquefoil before FUGIO: rightmost point is not aimed at crossbar) so Newman 12-X (R3) although the obverse is pretty weak.

I'd be at VG8 straight grade on this coin. The die and strike issues on many Fugio cents make it very hard to assign a technical grade so I am grading based on subjective appearance and a measure of experience. The planchet voids on this coin should not be taken into account in regards to its grade.

What exactly don;t you like about it? I am seeing a somewhat unevenly struck, a bit off-center Fugio with a typically rough planchet (for the era) and nice patina, worn down to about a VG10. No corrosion, no graininess, verdigris or pits. Quite nice for the grade actually.

I'm sure the coin will make the new buyer happy. I'll eventually invest in one where the mottos are completely legible, and maybe with fewer deep scratches.

I didn't pay a fortune for this.

Called that one.

This is DEFINITELY not a coin to be ashamed of in any way. If you don't want it, send it my way! ;)

Any Fugio, is a good Fugio.

My guess upon first glance was VG10

i think its better than an 8 but I'm betting they netted the grade rather than detail the coin. which is perfectly fine for one of these.
