Hi all,

I've been a casual collector for quite some time (i.e. building from pocket change), and had purchased a few RCM products in the mid '90's. It seemed at the time that the Mint had suddenly discovered the 'collector' market, and were issuing products much faster than I could keep up, so I let things slide. Fast forward to November of this past year - I had a break in, and among the many things taken were a few items from my collection - they grabbed my 5 & 25 cent albums (neither were complete, but there was a fair amount in each), a '95 proof set, the $2 banknote/twoonie Mint special issue, and possibly a bit more (I didn't have a proper inventory).

I'm curious if any Canadian collectors use inventory software programs at all. I bought the Currency Vault, and d/led the trial versions of Coin Manage and Coin Keeper. Now to be fair, I've only given them a cursory look, but in particular, the one I paid for seems like it could use a serious updating - it basically ends at 2003, and the numismatic/collector section is seriously lacking at this time. This section is pretty important to me as I've been spending the money on RCM collector pieces - things like the Proof and Specimen sets, Natural Wonders hologram series, etc.

Anyone have input or suggestions?

Greetings and welcome to the Forum.

Sad to hear of your loss; it happens all too often, no matter how many precautions we as collectors take.

There's some general discussion on How to keep track of your collecton at this thread. It's not Canada-specific, but you may find something of interest or use to you.

Welcome to the forum relayer,

Hope you enjoy your stay with us.

I do not use a commercial program because they get out of date so quickly and your hand is alway in your pocket paying for updates.

I use an excel spreadsheet that was set up by another member bigfella.

Although this was initially set up for Australian coins, it is a simple matter of changing details.

I have changed it to cover notes as well as foreign coins.

Thanks for the response, all - and apologies for my delayed response! I'm a truck driver, and because of the nature of the job, I often find myself hesitant to join and/or take part in forums simply because I can almost always count on not being able to participate in a timely fashion. As time goes on, I'm sure I'll be popping in here and there.
