This topic is related to the 1820 JR-1 StatesOfAmerica designation. I found what seemed to be an incorrect designation on a PCGS graded 1820 dime on ebay and then on Pcgs verify app labeled as StatesOf when it's clearly not a JR1. My question is I guess, is a Capped dime that is close to the StatesOf but not a JR-1 to be also designated as a StatesOf variation even if it is not the JR-1? If not and PCGS graded it as such, who would be interested in knowing this mistake? Feel free to share. And comment.

Currently listed on ebay. I do not think it's a StatesOf designation based on the Davis et Al book and the newer Bust Dime variations book. Most notably, the O in 1O C. In an actual StatesOf is more of a circular shape. But PCGS called it as such. Clearly not JR1.

I don't have an answer, just an observation. Their coin facts images here https://www.pcgs.com/coinfacts/coin.../images/4492 is the coin ID 4492 from your link and clearly show two different styles of 0 in 10C and even ones with the same style 0 have different positions of "S O" above the banner. It seems like they've lumped them all under "Large 0" but then there's a separate category "States Of" here https://www.pcgs.com/coinfacts/coin...tatesof/4494 whose images all appear to be the same variety with the round 0 in 10C and the small O in date. The coin you linked does not match those. What does the slab say?

It's the same dime. I'm familiar with this variety and own 3. All are JR-1. JR-9 though, also with scarcity of a level 4 for the series, is clearly not labeled as a StatesOf. And probably shouldn't be for the collectors of this series to avoid confusion. I think it's a mislabel as the authors of the two books surely saw that as well. I'll post a link to the listing. Please check those 1O C. 's on the reverse if you are planning on getting one. But PCGS should know this. ebay item number 385638030501

It really should be addressed since so many are now offered for sale that are not JR1. Point of example

Unless no one cares and the John Reich Society no loners matters.
