I agree with you about the obverse probably being cleaned and the reverse looking stronger overall, but I like the specimen enough. I think the rays are gorgeous, this same issue is currently the only Seated Liberty quarter in my collection. Sadly, as a short lived type, way too many collectors want nice ones, which seems to jack up the price way more than the rarity itself should warrant. For the 1853 quarter it just comes down to whether or not you have one that you enjoy looking at.
