Seller's pics. Paid $277, 30-days to return.

What's your take on that obverse Cud (or whatever it is)? If it's clearly PMD, back it goes. If not .. cool!

Rim Cud. Neat, but not super rare for the series.

If Coinfrog is right and it is a Rim Fin that's been folded, I suppose that might be called PMD ... another post for the error forum.

Something looks off to me with this coin. On the obverse the lack of detail to the devices, the denticles, the hairlines across the devices and whatever that is on the mouth. Then on the reverse you have the softness of the leaves in the wreath but the columns are bold and unbroken.

I don't see anything extraordinary in that. Here's the XF45 reverse from Photograde:

I'm going in at VF35 details on this one. the coin, however, appears to be cleaned. the surfaces just don't look original. I think $277 is full retail for a straight graded example. you'll need to evaluate the surfaces when you get it. it does have an outside chance of grading straight since it has started to re-tone. personally I think you can do better for the $$

I'm with the Rim Fin assessment. since that would be mint related during strike. I don't think its PMD.

The surfaces have a grainy look to me and don't look original at all. Compare the field on the photo grade coin to the field on the other coin. Difference seems to be great.

I'm not seeing anything especially unusual about the surfaces, but we'll know soon enough. I'll take a look under my scope when the coin comes.

If it fails my tests then I'll return it. Otherwise it is off to PCGS. Even then, if it comes back detailed, the seller is of the sort to make it right.

FWIW I think this is a rim Cud. Looks a lot like many of the known/listed ones: http://cuds-on-coins.com/three-cent-nickel-cuds/
