bought this many years ago. To quote Yoda, 'when 160 years old you are, look this good you will not' but maybe he's wrong, it's definitely in rough shape. However...is it real? Edited by TheSerialFlorist 08/30/2023 12:38 pm

SerialFlorist, it appears to be genuine from your pics. This note was issued - readily available on the web. Close examination would be required to determine if it is a counterfeit.

There are websites you can go to, to look up serial numbers of commonly encountered replica Confederate notes. I believe the oldest and most reliable such website is this one maintained by Crutchfields CurrencyYou simply look up the date of issue of the note, the denomination, and the serial number. If it appears on the list, it's 100% fake. If it doesn't appear, it's almost certainly genuine. In this case, $100, 1864, serial # 32172... it's not on the list. So looks like it's good.

I also believe your note is referred to as a "Lucy Pickens" note due her portrait being in the center of the note.

thx all for the great info guys,
I looked her up, Lucy Pickens was the Governor of South Carolina's wife, "Queen of the Confederacy". and she helped shape the stereotype of the "Southern belle".
I also looked up the other guy, that's George W. Randolph, who was the Confederate States Secretary of War in 1862.
Bill not worth much, way better as a conversation piece.

Like the others, I'm fairly certain the note is genuine. Lucy Pickens was definitely a force to be reckoned with in the old south. Another woman with clout was Varian Anne Banks Howell Davis, or as most people knew her, Mrs Jefferson Davis.
