This coin shows how the copper plating on the zinc cent can be split by the pressure of the strike. Almost every relief feature on the coin shows split plating pushed towards the rim. Even the FG initials show split copper with exposed zinc. Another example of the design detail that can be seen when the collar isn't in place to limit the strike depth. A good coin for study! Yes that is a great example @yoko. What are you thinking for storage—just a 2x2 or something to minimize the chance of the exposed zinc starting to degrade?

Great coin! When I first started with error coins the split plate doubling always kind of bothered me. Now I'm more okay with it as long as not too whack or all corroded to black. That 1999 is right in the sweet spot for a zinc off center, as it is attractive instead of distractive.

Nice example. It seems like there were lots of off-centers and out-of-collar strikes coming out of the striking chambers in 1999.
