This one is complicated, and to some extent I don't really understand quite what is going on. I know part of the story, but just can't explain the whole thing although I have some theories. That said, I bought this one from a highly respected error dealer, and at some point I will send him a photo and ask him to clarify his diagnosis. Until then, feel free to try and explain what you see and make your guess. Coin is a Lincoln Memorial cent, obviously broadstruck and about the diameter of a quarter so it's big and thin. Weight is 2.5g. No date Lincoln Memorial cent (zinc) mint error - Broadstruck plus? That is the correct obverse orientation. But maybe see more if I also include the obverse shown upside down.

Wow, I can't even begin to guess. I'm just picturing an anvil die piled with a mix of blank planchets and struck coins and this coming down on top of the whole pile on the hammer die and getting the clean reverse strike and a pile of junk for the obverse...

Wow, that's a pretty interesting one tropicalbats! Lots of stuff going on. The only thing I know is it's definitely Broadstruck for sure. I'll contact Mike Diamond for this one, so he can take a look at it.

lol. OMG... I see a potential for maybe two or more planchets/coins in the die at the same time, but I'm not even sure that was possible in '82 - '08... maybe multiple planchets/coins would explain the broadstrike though.

Hmm, I agree with shathe, struck through (multiple) capped die that had a previously stuck planchet fall off before this strike?
Neat looking whatever it is.

Wow! Looks like a plug of gum was copper plated and this was the result. Fantastic!
The reverse makes me think of a Die Cap, Uniface with partial Brockage? Very nice error.

I will add this to continue the pondering. Note that the reverse appears to have a rim at the outer edge. Well from that distinct rim the edge then bevels outward to the obverse (as seen in edge view). Might suggest that a first strike was a partial collar, and a second strike was broadstruck.

Fascinating however it came to be.

It's a forced broadstrike with a flipover brockage from an off-center cent. I strongly suspect that it was struck twice, with no movement of the two coins between strikes. There's probably more going on, but that's as far as I can take my analysis.

Thanks for all the great comments! I completely forgot about a forced broadstrike, which would be the case here as Mike points out, and I also believe it was struck twice with no movement between strikes. I am wondering if the word "uniface" could be added to the analysis or if the brockage prevents using that terminology. Pretty hard to understand what it was fully struck through, but it was apparently a mess.
