@shep, first welcome to CCF. Second, I'm not sure that is a coin, but it is interesting nonetheless. Can you please give us the diameter and weight (not including the bobbin and stuff)? Thx.

Welcome to the CFF, Shep! Google lens works best with a perpendicular pic = straight-on shot.

You're missing a letter from your monogram reading, which might or might not have helped you find it. It's GARS, for Gustav Adolph, Rex Sueciae (Gustav II Adolph, king of Sweden). Wikimedia Commons has an example of this monogram, attributed to him: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/...f_Sweden.svgAnd if you look at the portrait on his Wikipedia page, you should note a striking resemblance with your medal (it is a medal, not a coin). I don't think the item actually dates from the reign of Gustav II (1594-1632); it looks too modern and has much more of an 1800s vibe to it.

Well I'll be! Excellent research. The A most definitely would have helped. Thank you so very much. I am guessing the bobbin is late 1800's. I appreciate your effort when it isn't even a coin.

Actually, now that I look at his birth/death dates and dates of his reign, I would lean to a death commemorative.
