What an unusual token! My interest is piqued as well.

Online image search using your pictures brought the following:
https://en.numista.com/catalogue/ex...a112168.html

ebay SOLD search shows 13.00 paid for the lowest priced one. But most are above the 20.00 sold price.

This is a genuinely interesting item. It's part of a set of four tokens that were used in various promotions. They're made of copper, though silver versions do exist. Their origins are something of a mystery - nobody seems to be sure which company made them. We do know that they were sold for 50 cents and 75 cents, which was a big chunk of pocket money in the early seventies.

Items from this set have achieved decent sums at auction, but that's because particular specimens were owned by... Neil Armstrong. They were sold by his family after his death. They can also be purchased via the usual sites for a few bucks.

If anyone wants to look for themselves, they're known as 'Moon Money'.

The rest of the set is the Moon Buggy penny:

I've been trying to find the origins of these tokens for a while now and haven't made much progress.

This article gives me some more background but still leaves me at a dead end as to where they were minted, what type of gumball promotional process it was, etc.

I'd love to know if anyone else has in their possession the books mentioned in the article by Howard Weinberger or know if these are mentioned there. He collected these tokens and NGC has graded and certified a few from his collection, so it seems he knew at least a little.

It was previously discussed here and found on a card, so that contradicts the gumball theory too!
