Finally the hunt continues, but not before some memorable events... So after the machine was down on Monday, I put the 2 boxes back in my back seat to save some lifting later... Tuesday while driving around,. someone decided to make a left in front of me and slams on the brakes....so my back seat floorboard all the way to the gas pedals became paved in silver clad.....they were two inches deep under the seat...only about 50 remained out of the 4000 in the boxes..... so my son and I did some bonding that night digging them all out and reboxing... so then I take them back on Wednesday and emptied one box into the counter and then it jammed at the beginning of the second box but spun coins everywhere inside the machine at the bank... They opened up the machine and some 300-400 were spread all over the inside of the machine that we had to manually gather and then take the rest out of the sorting mechanism too...at least 1000 altogether.... I was there more than 30 minutes just reclaiming my nickels....it was still not fixed today.... but I got another $200 today to open this weekend..... I can't wait to get started :)

Two steps forward (2009D and 1971 Beautiful Proof) and one step back (averaged only 19.5 keepers per box) for the two boxes opened.... Still had a great time sorting and finding 39P x2, 40P x2, 40D x2, 40S, 41D, 41S x2, 42P Silver, 43S Silver, 47P, 48P x2, 49P, 52D, 53D, 54P, 54D x2, 54S x2, 55D x2, 56P, 56D, 57P x2, 57D, 59D, 60P x2, 60D x5

Knocked out 14 missing coins in the book to bring it to 159/246 completed. And 39 coins selected to potentially upgrade what I have already. Will edit once I compare them...

Amazing how much progress can still be made with this set when roll hunting.

Picked up a 5th box today.... nothing too special. Still have not pulled anything older than 1939....so I am still looking forward to that first buffalo or earlier...

Tonight it was: 40P, 42P alloy, 42S Silver, 46S, 49P, 52P, 54Dx2, 55Dx2, 56D, 57Dx2, 58Dx2, 59Dx2, 60P, 60D

And a $5 Jamaican coin worth a whopping $0.32

Hope to do a couple of boxes next week as I have some time off from work.

Nice start.

Years ago I was big time into nickel searching (hence my user name) and managed to complete the entire circulation strike set from local bank rolls. It took me 320,800 nickels searched to get there.

I kept and shared detailed roll hunt statistics. You can read about them here:

Best of wishes with your hunt - it was great fun for me.

I have only pulled eight 1938-P and two 1938-D nickels out of 130,000 nickels. That's on average one every 13,000 nickels. Some of these coin finds seem to come in streaks. You just have to keep plugging away at it.

Great find on the 1942-S, I still need one of those.

Box # 6 opened tonight: A first, not sure of the year, but a first:

And-So-It-Begins.-The-Great-Jefferson-Nickel-CRH!

And along with that one, I found:
1939P x2
1940P
1941P x2
1946P
1946S
1948S
1951D
1954D
1954S
1956P
1956D X2
1958P
1958D X3
1960P X2
1960D X2

5 of these were new ones for the Album!!

Now that I hit 10K+, have a compilation list so that I am adding them into a common list and keeping running totals.

I know it is only 6 boxes but it is fun to me to chart the progress...

Average pre-1961 per box 19.83
Average silver per roll 1

I was posting more but need to learn how to post with excel lines not re-aligning and staying in columns correctly...
