Hello, Is it worth dipping these in acetone? I didn't pay much and it's not a high value coin... just curious in the name of preservation and appearance... Thanks! Edited by Roma2021 09/28/2023 12:44 pm

On the '18, there appears to (possibly) be a die clash under the chin. As far as an acetone bath, I don't think it would hurt but let see what others have to say.

Start with acetone, then xylene if need be. I usually do a quick 10-30 second soak in acetone, remove coin and lightly roll over the surfaces with an acetone soaked qtip. If acetone does nothing, repeat the same process with xylene (do in a well ventilated area). Acetone does a good job at knocking out pvc, xylene does a better job for the longer standing heavier organic materials.

Didyou use acetone or xylene? Xylene is powerful stuff.

@jk... acetone. Took about 3-5 minutes with some gentle rotating.

Much better. Always worth a shot using Acetone on gunk.
