Found this 1988 penny with what looks to me to be damage caused at the mint. Only day this because the inside of cut or nick on the ear is the same color and consistency as the rest of the coin. Not copper or zinc like regular damage. Any thoughts on it? Does it help, hurt or change nothing of the value?

@hod, first welcome to CCF. Second, it is impossible to know if this ding happened at the mint or after the coin left the mint, but it definitely happened after the coin was struck. Therefore it doesn't add a numismatic premium.

Obverse is showing die deterioration--the emergence of a Ridge Ring.

Agreed, just a circulation hit on the earlobe and Ridge Ring, a form of Die Deterioration.
