A RARE 1745 Salzburg Taler - Ruler Jacob Ernst von Liechtenstein (1745-1747)This may be the new collection masterpiece - My research shows mintage of 800 pieces given the fact the ruler took office in November 1745, therefore the mint did not have much time to make them. Click on image to see design. This was a difficult purchase given the high price tag yet I doubt I will see this piece again. I can actually see the auction record for this exact coin on the Auction Archives site. Edited by Zohar444 04/05/2009 01:20 am

You have exquisite taste in these. Every one you have posted has caught my eye. The Talers you have don't just sit there they actually almost do something ~ they are just that cool.

I would say the word 'rare' is appropriate on this piece. I think that rare is a term used too often in numismatics, but how else could you describe something with a mintage of 800 over 200 years ago?
Stunning piece Zohar. In particular, I like the toning around the letters - great originality.

Very nice coin--tooling and die work of the Austrian Talers was probably the best of any mint at the time.

A coin like that makes you wonder why pieces as nice can't be minted nearly 300 years later. Is that coin or medal rotation?

Taler (coin). I agree and this is why I am selling all my contemporary stuff.

Oops, I don't think I was explicit enough. I was wondering if the dies were aligned in a medal alignment or coin alignment.
