1912 $10 Indian Head Rotated Die Error

Doubt there's a premium for a die rotation like this, amd given the evident wear, I wouldn't think it's a grading candidate.

I can't edit my post but wanted to make another comment. I just noticed that the rotation was far more than what I thought it was it's actually a 140° rotation. That much rotation could bring a premium but I would have to investigate furthe. Good luck!

I'd be suspicious already at "rotated dye"...

I wouldn't be surprised if it turns out to not even be real gold.

Little more information, I've checked the coin both by weight, mm size and using my sigma metalytics verifier pro. Coin checks and passes all tests I've put it through. It's a coin my father has had for a very long time and bought years ago over the counter at his coin shop. My dad who's dyslexic wrote "rotated dye" as he's not very good at spelling and gets letters confused. Either way I was surprised when he asked me to send it out and I saw the rotation. Thank you all for your information so I can best insure it to send it out.

kbbpll, I read the NGC article and looked for the key points that signify the fakes and I can't find the tell tale signs. But I'm not an expert on these specifically. I've got no problem spending the money getting it graded even if I find out it's a fake. I love things like this specifically because it makes me curious either way.

@ Dearborn I am my local coin store lol. My family owns 2 near where I live lol I may take it to another one of my brokers and see what he says.

umm, well then, umm (at a loss of words here) lol. maybe then a higher authority on this type of coin should be examined and evaluated properly. Since you are your own 'first step' then the second step is grading - you can send it to PCGS, I think that if it turns out to be a details of fake, you can opt out of having it holdered and pay a lower price for it. I think if if comes back in a "body bag" you would know.
