My sole pick-up in the most recent SARC auction was this interesting coin of Ancient India. Here is the description: Quote: AHICHCHATRA: Chandramitra, ca. 200-250 AD, AE 1/2 karshapana (2.05g), Unpublished, 3 royal standards on top of sacred platform // Brahmi legend chandamitrasa with three dynastic symbols above; some light adhesions, VF-EF, RRR. A new discovery! This king is not recorded so far. His name Chandamitrasa is clearly visible on the reverse. The bell metal alloy confirms his location late in the Panchala series. I've confirmed that a similar piece isn't listed in the normal places on the interwebs that I frequent (numista, zeno, and coinindia). With that said, anyone have a thought about the purported timing (200 to 250 AD)? From a weight standpoint, it seems to fit better into the primary series (150 BC to 120 AD) rather than the heavier coins of the secondary series (10 BC to 120 AD). Coins of the Restoration are later (300 to 350 AD) and weigh similar amounts, but seem to exclusively have a spoked wheel design on one side. Stephen Album's research team seems to think that the ruler, Chandramatra, issued this in between the primary/secondary series and the Restoration. I'd love to see any thoughts from the collective minds here as well as any suggestions for directions of further research that I could undertake. Thx. Finally, I would be remiss if I didn't post a link to what I believe is the only other coin from Ahichchagtra/Ahichatra/Ahichhatra posted on CCF (compliments to @ttkoo): http://goccf.com/t/434096"If you climb a good tree, you get a push." -----Ghanaian proverb

Ah nice to see something similar--thx for that link @ttk. Too bad that the seller doesn't speculate on the timeframe. I'm adding pics of this other coin to the thread:

Yes this is really helpful. Thx so much for your learned responses @drns! Looks like the timing of the minting of this coin is 149 to 141 BC, so several hundred years before I was thinking.
