OK, OK this was found in circulation approx 1976-1978.

I dragged out my old Whitman penny folders that got me started collecting in 1976. The only dates I am missing are the obvious 1909-S, 1909-S-VDB, 1914-D, 1922 Plain and 1955 DD. I was suprised that I had a 1931-S in the folder.

My Mom owned a deli in Philly during the 1970's-1980's, so I used to search ALL the coins before they reached the register. I have a bag of approx 8,000 wheats and a nearly complete Lincoln Cent collection.

Here is a photo of my 1931-S. What would you guys grade it? I would say a VF-30 that is listed at about $160. Any thoughts are appreciated.

Very nice 31S, this coin looks at least EF-40 to me.

I agree with echizento that it's EF but your value is a little high. $130 retail is more in line with it's condition.

Nice find!

Agreed. I have an EF in my album and it looks quite similar.

If it were mine I might give it an acetone rinse. With some of the circulation grime and hand grease removed it would appear a little brighter. Fantastic circulation find!

Not really a good idea. If your happy with a coin the way it is, leave well enough alone. True that Acetone should, may, might not effect the coin, but why take that chance with a valuable coin.
Rest in Peace

I disagree with Carl. Acetone will NOT hurt your coin, but be sure and read the many threads here on safe handling.
