I've been wanting one for a while. The only year of these with reverse proof so far. It celebrated 100th anniversary of the nickel design. Mintage 47,836, release price $1,640.

It has a red spot, some call it copper spot in middle upper hair of the Native American so I got it at a discount compared to perfect examples. Like milk spots on silver, gold can develop spots over time. There's online discussions and articles about it.

I'm surprised by a "copper spot" on a 0.9999 fine gold coin. Is it possible the blemish is something else?

I don't know much about it, from what I've read theories are it can be impurities on the planchet surface, on the die or in the metal itself, the latter maybe least likely. I've seen other gold buffalo online with red spots. They may not be copper spots but that's what some call them. Here is an example:

I have a bullion buffalo I posted last year, used a soft eraser to remove its red spot. Do not, not ever, use eraser on a valuable numismatic coin. So far the spot has not come back.
