Very nice buy, CoinHI! The doubling on Trust is particularly bold.

Nice pickup. Really clear and crisp separation on your example.
Do you think yours is a much earlier die state?
TRUST, on yours, seems to have the die dots at the end of the bottom curve of the S to the U that match the VV images. (Thanks again for the link for easy viewing of the variety.)

I wish every new collector that is wondering if they have a DDO / DDR or MD could look at your picture of "trust".

Quote:I wish every new collector that is wondering if they have a DDO / DDR or MD could look at your picture of "trust". To be fair, this is a crystal clear example of x/y or rotational translation doubling on a relatively large coin with minimal circulation wear. It's probably the best case scenario for that decade of American coinage. Most of the doubling that rookies want to evaluate is on much smaller coins, often with circulation wear, and lacks the feature displacement. Some doubling classifications are shallow, shelf-like, and not easily distinguished from Machine Doubling. Even some Cherrypicker doubled dies could be confused for Machine Doubling by someone inexperienced.

Your half dollar is not the 71D DDO-004 FS-101. Your half dollar would be the 71D DDO-009, reference Variety Vista. The DDO-004 FS-101 has the ODV-003 (Strong R), your half dollar has the ODV-002 (Weak R).

Thanks for the comments on this one! Atrox- Thanks, that does looks right. DDO-009 it is. Looking through the 17 different DDO's listed on variety vista, there are only 2-3 with the ODV-002. I'm assuming ODV-002 is a lot less common and I would be curious to know mintage figures if that was possible. Oddguy- I'm thankful for your comment but do agree with Brandmeister that though this is clear doubling, It wouldn't be of help for beginners trying to identify for instance Class VI doubling on a Lincoln Cent.

Excellent job Atrox001. Always nice to get a correct attribution.
(Maybe the die dots at the end of the bottom curve of the S to the U on TRUST are on the master die since they seem to be on 004 and 009.)
