*** Edited by Staff to Add Year / Mintmark / Denomination to Title. It's very important to have in the title. ***

Good morning I have only been getting knowledgeable recently and learning how to pay attention to pocket change but I'm just wondering if there are ways to know what types of error coins bring more interest and or collect abilities to a coin. Are there certain hidden errors that are like unicorns? This is the coin that made me question this. Thank you.

Certainly some errors are more popular and valuable than others. If you are interested in errors, I would suggest studying up on https://www.error-ref.com/ so you can identify genuine errors. Your coin is just damaged.

A nice example of heavy post-strike damage. Suggest following up on lcutler's info--great place to start. Mangled fenders on a '67 Corvette don't mean the car was made 'in error'.

to the CCF First you need to learn what an error or variety is. I suggest using this site as much as you can. Almost everything you find in your pocket will be just ordinary coins with damage on them. It takes looking through hundreds if not thousands of coins before you find something to save.

Thanks! I will definitely check out that read, I appreciate all the response and am excited to learn how to really tell damage from mistakes. I have been able to tell single strikes from doubles for the most part, based on thickness of the font and I really enjoy the hobby.
