This was a pick of a coin sold as BU (orignally spotted by a friend, not me). The images looked a little sketchy so kinda thought it was cleaned. Yup, cleaned but not too harshly. It's just a major problem on ebay, with so many cleaned coins on there. A good seller will either not clean it and sell it as-is or clean it and label it as such. Selling cleaned coins as BU is just frustrating.
Didn't pay all that much for this one so not a big deal. It still looks pretty good and is a fairly tough variety to find. This one is a bit later die stage so doesn't show super well, but a rare die is a rare die.
1941-D Mercury dime doubled die - DDO-001, DDR-001 - FS-101/801
I found one of these at the World's Fair of Money this year, definitely a fun one to spot. The doubling on the date really stands out when you're looking at multiple 41's.
