I think I'm ready to dip into the silver market again, but I have a bit of a problem.

I see that Austrian Philharmonics carry a low rate over spot, and naturally bars even lower. My question is this:

Will philharmonics keep their numismatic "buffer"? Or when I try to sell them again they will be only bought at spot.

As of right now I'm comparing prices on bulliondirect. If there's lower prices elsewhere, please tell me!

I really have no idea in regards to your question but you just managed to teach me my one new thing for the day- I had no idea that there were silver Philharmonics, I just knew of the gold ones How long have the silver ones been in production?

Supposedly it's the second year of production, so mintage is still out of the question. I still can't find any mintage numbers for last year's run, but then again these carry the lowest premiums of any government minted silvers.

I bought some Silver Philharmonics last year. I think that they will keep their numismatic value over bars. I think the design is great! 2009 versions have been selling from 25-27 dollars each on ebay. With spot a little over $12 right now I don't think that you would loose money with them. my .02

Really?! $25-27?! I guess there's numismatic demand after all.

Nive of you to bring this thread back up again. My 33 coins are coming tomorrow!

well if you ordered your a little over spot you have me beat. I bought 15 last year at $18 an ounce (then spot was around $16.80). They are great coins! it's nice to have to go along with the gold philharmonics!

I love the design on the Phils, but many people do not or are afraid to buy them due to ignorance (never heard of them because they are so new). Personally, I would stick to the bars because you get more silver per dollar spent, and they are easier to sell when you need to. Of course, I might suggest getting one Phil just to have it in your collection. :)
