To CCF! It's damage. PMD. The whole coin is showing damage unfortunately. No errors here.

I'm wondering if it's a cast counterfeit and that's a casting port in the edge. There are lots of things wrong with the reverse - 50 C, the left tip of the shield should stick out past the neck, arrow top is too close to A, etc. Hard to tell since the coin is so damaged.

Cast counterfeit was my first impression. Give it a weigh.
Nothing in the minting process could create that gouge except a planchet defect.

Well thank you for the response, would a cast still have script on the edge of the coin?

The mushy details of the devices and the numerous pimples in the fields suggest a cast counterfeit.

Quote: would a cast still have script on the edge of the coin? Tough to say. The fakers may not have taken the time to incorporate edge lettering in the mold or maybe they did. Also, lettering could have been punched in after the fake had been removed from the mold. But yours is certainly a cast fake - obvious at first glance. Numista's Capped Bust Half page has a pretty good image of edge lettering https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces10637.html

You should still weigh it. I believe it is a genuine coin, just beaten up badly. The vast majority of counterfeit halves have edge lettering. Your coin I see nothing wrong with.
