Came across a Wheat penny with a partial reed edge. Is this an error? or just wear and tear. Looks pretty uniform on spacing and such.

Sorry, new to this... it has the photos on my profile I think. Not really sure how to add them to the thread.

I guess my initial description was a little misleading... I am more referring to the reeding like impression on the reverse. That is more of what I'm wondering is an error or not.

Neat looking coin.
Although the images are a little hazy they are clear enough to see what you are referring to.

I agree with John1. It didn't leave the mint that way since there isn't anything at the mint that could cause this.
(A cent wouldn't fit into the striking chamber, aka collar die, for the dimes if that is what you were thinking.)

Thank you all! It just caught my eye while going through the bucket of change. The edge is smooth like it is expected... Wasn't really sure on what was going on, but PMD it is.

Possibly a formerly Encased Cent.

The only thing at the mint that might cause that is the mylar sealing machine for sets of coins but I do not think it is from that. I think it is PMD.

Surely it must be, and probably deliberate.
