I received a 1918 Illinois Centennial commemorative from a very generous forum member in the Secret Santa exchange. That gift enabled me to be able to do some creative photography when I was in Springfield, IL on Feb 12, Lincoln's bicentennial birthday. The obverse of the coin is based on a statue created by Andrew O'Connor that is located in front of the Illinois State Capitol. It was commissioned for the Illinois Centennial in 1918 and symbolizes President-elect Lincoln's farewell to Springfield before he boarded a train to Washington DC. The granite slab behind the statue has the farewell address carved into it.

And for those interested here is a photo album of some other pictures I took that day. Unfortunately, photography was only allowed in the main gallery of the museum which is a little aggravating considering I have taken pictures inside of the Smithsonian Institution and the National Archives
