Hi again,
I won this at auction - AE18 Antiochos VIII Gypros 121-96 BC . The only other info that came with it was BMC 25-28, and I am wondering
a. does it seem genuine?
b. can anyone help with the date dohh....I meant which mint, which I think is in exergue?

edit :
18.1mm to 18.7mm
5.88 grams
nice medal alignment

loosing my marbles....

these are the sellers pics, my phone camera is not doing it any better justice.

Thanks in advance

iI am really getting things mixed up today. I am currently on meds for an upcoming operation next week, so that probably explains my confusion.
I have just found a nice reference on wildwinds to this coin which also references BMC 25

Antiochos VIII Gryptos. AE19, 121-97 BC. Antioch ad Orontem mint.

Obv: Radiate and diademed head of Antiochos VIII right.
Rev: BASILEWS ANTIOXOY EPIFANOYS to right and left of eagle
standing left, sceptre over shoulder, IE in outer left
field, Seleukid date BRR in exergue.

Hoover HGC 1212; SC 2307ff; BMC 25.

So now I must investigate BRR and see what that turns up

Sorry for the constant edits.

Again it seems I am mixed up.
it is actually BPP in exergue.
Reading up on this in
THE SELEUCID MINT
OF ANTIOCH by EDWARD T. NEWELL

(acknowledgments and thanks to augustus1 for the very timely link to seemingly all things ancient) I have been able to deduce most of the numerical system used by the Seleucids at that time, and I THINK that it is 2 (B beta) + 100 (P Rho) + 100 (P Rho) - 202 Aer. Sel. which would equate to Oct 111 to Oct 110 B.C.
I say I think, because most of the ancient greek numeral systems, and there were many by all accounts, would use sigma as the symbol for 200 rather than PP.

So hopefully I have solved my own twisted query, and many thanks for the help provided.......
