I placed an order for two Lincoln Commemerative Coins and a 2008 Silver Proof Set on 2/25/09 and just rec'd an email that my order had been cancelled! What's up with that? Am I the only one who has issues with the Mint? What can I do?

Did they give a reason? I know they oversold the Lincoln Commemoratives, but I would think that 2/25/09 would have been early enough to make it before the sellout. Not sure about the 2008 Silver Proof Set.

They gave me four different reasons. Basically they kept changing the reason when I would call them on it. After a 40 minute call they reinstated my order. Their service sucks! If my department ran they way they do I'd be fired in a month.

I don't know what's going on with the Lincoln Commem's.....but they are still for sale on the website....Jbuck refers to their "overselling them".....they should take them down and say "sold out" if they are indeed "sold out".
The Silver Proof Sets can be ordered by subscription or waiting until the "on sale date".
........don't understand The Mint either !

You work for really tolerant people AlabamaDan. Are you sure let would let you stay that long?

But to answer your question, no I have not had any trouble with them so far. My wife ordered the Lincoln Commemoratives for me and she got them one day before the estimated shipping date. However I think I may run into problems when it comes time to get the Lincoln sets they are selling later this fall. I feel that demand will far out weigh supply.

You would think the mint would issue the mint and proof sets at the begining of the year. It would allow for sales the whole year. As for all the commemorative issues mix them in during the year cause I don't want them.

And I agree with eaglefoot....I want my Proofs NOW!!

And I thought I was the only one waiting for them to start minting proof ASEs. Do you think they won't mint them for the entire year?

I agree. There are very few commemoratives that I have ever been interested in. The proof sets are more important since they are cracked for my albums!

I, actually, for the first time, am thinking of "stopping" my "collection idea" of attaining each new Commem. that comes out each year. I only started getting the newest ones a few years ago. I've acquired "older" ones now and again as well of course.
But, after this Braille proof, which I'll buy in the fall.......I think I may "cease and desist" with this endeavor and just be happy with what I have. Trying to make a "Commemorative Album" is way too expensive for me right now and in the foreseeable future.....so really my preference needs to be more on the more Classic circulated coinages that I enjoy so much too.
I love ALL coins....but this needs narrowed down a bit nowadays.
The Lincolns, Mercs., Buffalo's, Morgans, Peace, Large Cents, all Barbers, etc. etc......will MORE THAN KEEP ME BUSY FOR A LIFETIME !....
I believe I will just get the occasional Commem. that impresses me from now on after this year of 2009.
And also, as Jbuck said......the Ultra Modern coins from circulation will possibly be more and more difficult to acquire too, and that may end some "areas of focus" there for me as well.
Although I don't plan to end my attempts to collect the "yearly Sets", Ultra Modern circulated Sets may be at an end for me.
ACK !......though my nephew wants to begin the " Native American dollar" Set !......HOW ON EARTH AM I GOING TO GET THOSE FROM CIRCULATION !

You don't. Just pull them from your mint sets and be done with it!

.........I plan on cracking out my Presidential dollars for a "Proof Set Album" someday, because, after all....WHY NOT ? RIGHT ?....
But I haven't made the decision/leap to "crackin" other Sets as of yet !......not that I'm against it at all.......just haven't actually done it as of yet.
I'm not sure if I wanna start that process beginning with a 2009 Uncirculated Set.
I have not had a large amount of time/money/energy invested with trying to make albums with "current" denominations (circulated or uncirculated). And keeping current in years of albums with "modern coinage" is one thing......but for me..... I'd also have to "go back" and get the previous ones too !
For instance, my Lincoln album begins in 1909 and stops in 1973 or '74......and I'm quite happy with that! I'm NOT pained that my album doesn't go right up to 2009.....or that I don't have a Lincoln Memorial only album.....The Indian Heads and Large Cents that I've always gone after will forever keep me going in the "Cent arena".
And as far as Dimes, I have no modern Roosevelt album.....just the Mercury, Seated Liberty dimes, Half Dimes, and a fair amount of Silver Rosie's...
The same with the Jefferson nickel (except the Westward Series) I only have 3CN's, Trimes, Liberty, War Nickels, and Buffalo's...
Same deal with the Washington quarter. (except the State Qtrs)

I just don't have much in the way of "Modern Coinage" albums at all......and my interest hasn't ever been very high to make an effort to complete those.
I've just always had "more" interest in the "older coinage".
So, if I just begin crackin' Sets to "start" down that road......WELL THEN I HAVE TO GO BACK AND GET ALL THE '70'S, '80'S, '90'S, etc. COINAGE THAT I PREVIOUSLY HAD NO INTEREST IN !......and I have very few Proof or Uncriculated Sets from those decades so....

So, it's kind of a quandry for me.......if I start "crackin' Sets" in 2009 or 2010.....well.......I just dunno what to do really.
As a "potential" "area of focus" for me with the Modern coinage in THAT respect.....it'd be very tough to start it now !
Or even continue forward from those that I have started and/or completed like the 50 State Qtrs. or the Westward Series Nickels.

The Lincolns have been suffering from long delays between ordering and actual shipping. The Mint nows from past experience that this will mean a fair number of declined credit cards due to expiration or being maxed out. Those orders will be canceled and then filled with people from the waiting list.

He was talking about the 2008 sets not the 2009 sets. So their is no subscription or waiting for the on sale date.

What were the reasons? Was there a problem with your credit card? If there was and you got reinstated, you may now be at the end of the waiting list for the Lincolns and still may get canceled.

Boy.....that would be a big ole heavy order !.....
But, this may be my ONLY real option to acquire even just the "D" Mint for me. Let alone work on a couple of "D" & "P" Mint albums.
Sorry JB....But I just don't wanna crack my Uncirc. Sets just yet !....(mostly for reasons already explained with my specific collection)
Buying $500.00 worth of these once a year to make albums........hmmmm....I don't "dislike" this idea.....I may have to think about this a little more.
But OH !......My bank WILL JUST LOVE ME FOR BRINGING IN A $500.00 BAG OF THESE !.... (Espicially since they still have thousands of dollars worth of the old Sac's. !)....
Thanks Wif99.....this idea has given me food for thought.
