Well, never had this happen before, I received this quarter in change. Since this is my first one how would you grade the condition of the coin.

Yes John1, another quarter does fit in the curved clipped area.

Dearborn, it does show the Blakesley Effect on both obverse and reverse, the reverse seems more pronounced ( Reed Marks where rim should be and devices stretching outward toward the rim opposite the curved clip)

I'm going back and forth on this as to manufactured or real. If manufactured, then someone is getting pretty good at these things. I look forward to seeing a picture of the edge at the clipped location.

I'm pretty sure it's a real clip. The Blakesley Effect shows on the opposite side.

Edge image provided as requested, is there anything in particular that edge images provide to authenticate a curved clip?

Added additional edge images

IMO.... almost looks like a double clip to me, considering on the reverse under the word DOLLAR appears to be slightly sheered.

What sort of diabolical genius would manufacture a fake clipped planchet quarter and then spend it for face value?

I can't really help, like I said not my area. The edge pic does not look normal and on the clip, each end of the clip is a place for iding a real clip. There is a thread on iding clips, but I could not find it.

It looks good to me. Some large clips will show no blakesly effect. The weakness on the opposite side of the clip is expected.

Also I would grade it Ms or AU58 and worth $30 or so.
