This is a Chinese-made fake. The way to diagnose a lot of the Chinese Lincoln cents is to look at the inside edge of the left wheat right across from the top of the U in UNITED. If you see a fair-sized die chip there, such as on this coin, then you know it is a Chinese counterfeit. They used this same reverse with a number of different obverses, so you will see it on various "rare" coin counterfeits.

And just to clarify DOCC's comment, yes it is an absolute fake, but no, it has nothing to do with altering the date. It was made that way. The date font is wildly different from the real font used by the mint so it does look quite different from a real coin though.

Always amazes me that people continue to buy these easily-debunked coins on e-Bay.

@Coin, you will be amazing. I made a small check for Canadian 25 and 50 cents 1931 and I fund that 95% are fake. You will find also slabed fake coins with fake slabs. Initially was made in China but after the Gov strike on today come from Phillipine and Indonesia where no one will be punish.

Peoples go after those in my term : Error coins Efemera, because of lack of knowleadge and also because only an hanfull of peoples know to detect, and it is an resistence from them to publish.
