Hi,

First, I don't care about rarity or value here - all I need to know is how this happened and what it's called? I'm fairly certain this one is mint damage, but what part of the process did it happen at? Are there any good sites that would show that process?

Also, not sure if you can see it, but this split is about 3/4 of the way around the edge at various spacing (gap is not as noticable all the way around).

Thanks as usual for your help.

The edge looks normal - reeded, no damage. Is that what you mean?

Looks like a misaligned die to me

Last, looking up misaligned die (MAD), I was able to find a photo and yes, that is exactly what this looks like.

My next question is what does the term Railroad mean... I'm looking now, just curious.

amyj, here's an old thread from the CCF that discusses railroad rims. The explanations and pics there are better than I could do briefly here (and besides, I'm not really an "error" person). By the way, the search function is your friend!
