I found this1988-D quarter with what I have thought of as a "scar" running from the rim between the E and the R in Liberty, all the way down Washington's bust and possibly below, between the 1 and the 9 in the date. There is also what appears (to me, with a shallow pool of knowledge) to be a die crack to the right of the date and on the reverse, a die chip on the rim at the 2:00 position above the E in America. I am bringing this to you because I am fairly new to this and not terribly familiar with the myriad types of errors and how to visually identify them. Any information and/or guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to look this over and share your insight.

Looks like a stain to me. Try a soak in 100% pure acetone. John1

Thanks for the input John. The lines do appear to be in the coin itself and not just on the surface,. That being said, I'll make sure my eyes aren't playing tricks on me and give it an acetone bath and report back. Not sure if this pic makes a difference, but here it is at a different angle.

Interesting. Please post a close-in photo of the IBER portion of LIBERTY. The first pic posted above seems to show another curious issue. Thanks.

Need really close up pictures. Is that area after one in date and around B in Liberty raised? Yes, those could be stains but need to confirm.

I'll get it under the microscope when I get home today and get some close up shots of those areas.
