Hello, I am new to this site and also new to coin collecting. I found this coin at my local coin dealer and don't know what to consider the error as, due to so many. Hopefully my images will post.
First, the obverse is not as effected as the reverse, but let me mention just a few of the things:
The Date appears to be doubled.
The overall texture of the coin is "unfinished".
The we trust appears to have doubling.
The United States on reverse appears to have doubling.
The letters in "Five" appear to be mis-formed.
The letters in Monticello and in Cents, some of them are clear others are not.
The word Pluribus almost looks like it was struck a second time on the outer rim.
It looks like doubling above the left side of the Monticello as you are looking at the coin.

At first I just thought it was like a strike through of some sort but some of the things are crystal clear.
I would appreciate any ideas anybody may have.
Sorry I had to cut some of the pictures way down to keep the 300KB

To CCF! That nickel is either displaying severe Die Deterioration or heat/acid damage.

Thank you for your information, I went to the link that you provided, and I think you are probably right about the Die Deterioration.

Sparky1625,

I agree with Errers and Varietys. What did it cost you and what did the dealer say it was? A few too many photos.

Luckily it only cost me a dollar, and he didn't really say what it was. I just saw it in the display case and told him that I wanted it. Like I mentioned I am extremely new to collecting coins and I thought it looked like something that might have some value. Better luck next time, I guess. I appreciate the input.

Photos are a bit difficult to evaluate. That said, I believe Die Deterioration is playing a role here.

For only a dollar, it makes a good example to keep, showing DDD.
