Trying To Find Mint Mark On Nickel - Coin Community Forum

mrwhatisit Pillar of the Community United States 2953 Posts	Posted 12/30/2023 10:03 pm The mintmark would be in that little area just below the date; in this case, there is no letter, therefore minted in Philadelphia Also, on nickels issued 1938-1964, the mintmark would be on the reverse to the very right of the Monticello building, no mint visible is Philadelphia, D for Denver and S for San Francisco. Other than War Nickels, no US coins had the P mint mark until 1979 and nickels started in 1980. Almost any coin before that without a mint mark is just Philadelphia.
