Been playing around with Cointracker and can't find the mint mark on this nickel to put into website. It's a 1978 nickel.

The mintmark would be in that little area just below the date; in this case, there is no letter, therefore minted in Philadelphia

Also, on nickels issued 1938-1964, the mintmark would be on the reverse to the very right of the Monticello building, no mint visible is Philadelphia, D for Denver and S for San Francisco.

Beginning in 1980 for the nickel, the Philadelphia mint began putting on the P mint below the date.

You have your answer so I won't pile on.

Question - do you own a basic reference such as the Red Book? Have you read it? These basic questions are answered there.

Bought a Red Book today. No need to hit the gym. Will just use my new book to work out my upper arms and shoulders. Ready to curl up by the fire and do some light reading. I'm sure I will get more comfortable as time goes on.

I hope you haven't been confused by all the " no mint mark" junk floating around the internet. Other than War Nickels, no US coins had the P mint mark until 1979 and nickels started in 1980. Almost any coin before that without a mint mark is just Philadelphia. The few exceptions to this include a small number of "no S" proof coins and the famous 1922 "no D" cents.
