Hi all, Wondering is anyone can help me out here. I received this coin as a gift from my grandfather about 35 years ago. I was organizing my collection and happened to notice that this particular coin seems to have an anomaly along the right edge on the obverse side. Does anyone know if this anomaly is common? Thanks! We will need a photo of the reverse. One or two close ups would help. Also, please properly crop photos before posting them. We only need to see the coin not the background...thanks. John1

It is raised. I had actually never noticed it before, not sure why it all of a sudden stood out.

Hi Sharks, thanks for the welcome :)
Sorry for my ignorance, can you please explain what 'cob' means? I tried to look it up but the definition stated "crude hammered coins". Do you suspect this is a counterfeit?
Thanks! Marty

Thank you all for your help!
Does this make the coin more valuable, or is this a fairly common error to see on coins from this era?

Large cents are not my area, but I would think a variety collector might pay a premium.Let's wait for members in the know to chime in. John1

A part of the striking (hammer die) broke out and the void was filled with the metal as it struck the coin. It is a rim Cud.
